Meet Wendi Mahaney-Gurahoo

I am compelled to run for San Jose Unified Board of Education at this moment in time not only because of my lifelong commitment to supporting quality education for all, but also because I see a fresh opportunity to re-imagine education. To that end, I want to engage with the teachers, families, and children of our community to create innovative and equitable solutions that benefit us all.

As the mother of two sons, with one who graduated from San Jose Unified and one who currently attends a District school, and as a former special education preschool teacher with 30 years of service in the field of education, I believe my experience has uniquely positioned me to run for this school board seat. I deeply value quality education as a fundamental right for all children and work every day to extend opportunity and access for all the young people in our community. 

Along with supporting our kids, I believe in the power of amazing teachers. They are some of our community's heroes. My goal is to ensure that our district further supports our teachers with compensation equity, collaborative family partnerships, continued support with professional development aspirations, and daily classroom instructional needs. 

I am prepared and eager to have uncomfortable conversations with my Trustee Area 5 neighbors in an effort to listen, understand, and support what parents in our community are concerned about.
